Crowdfunding: the She box by Savannah Steyn

About

the She box is an educational initiative to open up dialogue on abuse, one of the most ubiquitous social and political issues in today's culture, among younger audiences. The theatrical elements of text, voice, movement, fantasy surroundings, and eccentric characters are used in the allegorical performance to provoke discussion.

In this drama, our protagonist, a young woman, is trying to get a job at Mr Pink's paper box factory. A place where Mr Pink, the charming papermaker, hires talented, fashionable women to serve as his papermaking dolls and is renowned to everybody as a thriving wonderland. However, not everything is as it appears. The walls in this fanciful yet exciting tale of sisterhood and survival are paper thin, and the tightly sealed secret is about to be revealed.

The performance explores the patterns, manifestations, and effects of abuse through the use of a dramatic framework. While keeping in mind the damaging repercussions that abuse has on female friendships. In the ongoing effort to end oppression and injustice, it encourages both introspection and direct action. The performance explores the ripple effect that deliberately destructive activities have on a person's relationships and the places they frequent most, such as their workplace, home, and neighbourhood.
