AFRO VISIONARY MOVIE NIGHTS PRESENTS

A CINEMATIC SUMMONING: And She Didn’t Die

On the 25th of April, we invite you to The Bioscope for a night where film meets ritual. We aren't just screening a movie; we are opening a spiritual archive.

Director Kethiwe Ngcobo brings her powerful, award-winning documentary And She Didn’t Die to the big screen—a "visual resurrection" of identity, lineage, and raw human emotion.

THE STORY:

And She Didn’t Die tells the life story of South African writer and resistance fighter Lauretta Ngcobo, as seen through the eyes of her daughter. By interweaving home videos, archival material, and re-enacted scenes, the film creates a richly layered portrait that blends the personal and the political. It is a tribute to the power of stories as a form of resistance, healing, and cultural transmission.

THE VIBE:

DJ Zviko (@zvikokay) will be our resident DJ for the night, weaving an immersive sonic tapestry that ties these visual worlds together. Drawing on African sonic listening practices and jazz’s improvisational spirit, Zviko will guide us through a sonicscape designed for re-membering, playfulness, and new ways of seeing.

Come for the cinema, stay for the ceremony. This is for the dreamers, the archive-keepers, and the lovers of real, textured storytelling.

"Well organised. We thought it was an outside venue under the stars yet again, and it was indoors with good seating! Which meant we could have left our many many layers of clothing at home. The movies screened were completely well chosen. Different themes beautiful films. Wonderful experience altogether. Well organised"

"This was an incredible event! The film & Q&A were very moving. I really appreciated the inclusion of captions on the film. It was my first time going to the Afrikan Freedom Station--the space was perfect. The free juice was delicious & I was grateful for the bonfire because it was definitely cold. It would've been nice to have heaters in the film viewing area. "
