About

Hatua Kali: Social Service Design Agency

Founded in 2021, Hatua Kali is a Social Service Design Agency whose name translates from Swahili as “Strong Action (in a Soft Way).” This ethos encapsulates our commitment to fostering creative innovation and driving positive change across Sub-Saharan Africa. We partner with public and private sectors, civil society organisations, grassroots initiatives, artists, and media to design, develop, and implement impactful social projects and programs. Our holistic, imaginative approach, combined with grounded pragmatism, ensures that our work is inclusive, community-driven, and sustainable, addressing complex local challenges while enhancing social cohesion.

In addition to our core projects, we host music and storytelling events to foster community connections and facilitate important discussions in a welcoming environment. These events also serve as fundraisers, with proceeds supporting our social development research in Sub-Saharan Africa. By investing in this research, we enhance our ability to design and implement effective social projects that address local needs and challenges. Your participation not only enriches the community but also helps us drive impactful change.

"A wonderful experience in a beautiful setting at Elsewhere in Seapoint. Carefully structured and guided into a creative flow of thoughts on paper. I recommend everyone to experience this. "

"So lovely to be in a creative space, even online, even for just an hour, truly inspiring, making me want to write more and in new ways."

"It was an incredibly beautiful show, taking you through loss and pain to joy and celebration. Both Tanike and Mage shine through their heartfelt lyrics and guitar! "

"Tanika you were wonderful. So knowledgeable and I learnt so much and really felt like I was in a safe space even though I was surrounded by people I didn’t know. You flowed with the group and the environment even when it was a little chaotic and you allowed space for creativity while maintaining a gentle structure. Writing can be a very vulnerable process and therefore a bit scary but honestly so blown away by how smoothly you got us out of our shells! At the same time it was very educational especially for such a short period of time, even so I didn’t feel overwhelmed by information. I’ve walked away feeling like I have a solid foundation on which to build, practice and learn more from. Thank you again!!!"
