About

The SCCT was founded in 1972 as an adjunct to the Cape Town Symphony Orchestra, performing major choral works each year under the baton of well-known guest conductors. Since 1992 the Choir has been an independent body and has promoted and managed its own concerts. While singing major choral works remains its main objective, the Choir performs smaller scale works as well. The SCCT aims to put on an average of 4 concerts per year. It consists of between 50 and 70 members from all walks of life with a common love of choral music The choir is directed by Levi Alexander and run by a committee headed by a chairperson and made up of choir members. The SCCT is a non-profit organisation and, as such, works hard to gain sponsorship and funding from corporates and private individuals.

"The Plea for Peace was the most wonderful and powerful performance. Using the screen brought the horror of war even more intensely than just the score. Thank goodness it was performed on 2 occasions as the amount of rehearsal times with three different choirs and then the orchestra too must have been immense! The choice of music in the first half was very appropriate, making it the most enjoyable evening of entertainment. I should add that the program was immensely informative too and thank whoever was involved in its production!"
