About

The SCCT was founded in 1972 as an adjunct to the Cape Town Symphony Orchestra, performing major choral works each year under the baton of well-known guest conductors. Since 1992 the Choir has been an independent body and has promoted and managed its own concerts. While singing major choral works remains its main objective, the Choir performs smaller scale works as well. The SCCT aims to put on an average of 4 concerts per year. It consists of between 50 and 70 members from all walks of life with a common love of choral music The choir is directed by Levi Alexander and run by a committee headed by a chairperson and made up of choir members. The SCCT is a non-profit organisation and, as such, works hard to gain sponsorship and funding from corporates and private individuals.

"Last night's performance was a fabulous event. It was a privilege to watch this exciting and dynamic ensemble of gifted musicians and singers- they were ALL simply astounding in delivery, from the most seasoned professional, to the little angelic schoolboy trebles, every performer responded with a positivity that was just inspiring. This is the type of unity we want to see and experience in the Arts. We all left the beautiful Jakes Gerwel hall on UWC campus, on a massive high. The behind-the-scenes team, without whose logistical support an event like this would be less successful, needs a special mention for their consistent and considerate planning, as well- an effective group, indeed. Highest praise, however, must go to Levi Alexander, whose brilliant direction of this huge group inspired the solidarity we saw last night, and who held the whole together most competently, with beautiful style and verve. Superbly done, Levi! "
