Kids Dental Home Pro Bono Surgeries 2023
About
Don't miss the opportunity to align your brand with the most exciting transformation in paediatric dentistry. Partner with Kids Dental Home Foundation and help raise funds for 20 kids with Early Childhood Caries (ECC), who cannot afford theatre fees.
ECC is a major oral health problem and constitutes a serious public health problem worldwide, mainly in socially disadvantaged populations. It is however, one of the largely preventable diseases; and remains to be one of the most common childhood diseases.
“As a foundation, we take into cognisance that oral health plays an important role in children’s overall well-being, mainly to maintain their oral functions in general and is therefore required for eating, speech development and a positive image. We therefore support the idea that the right to health is about ensuring that everyone, everywhere, can access affordable, quality health care”. – Dr. Londiwe Sibisi Maboye, Director
Since 2022, Kids Dental Home Foundation established a programme to support children with Early Childhood Caries, particularly from underpriviledged communities, gain access to quality oral health care by providing pro bono surgeries on an annual basis. This is done in commemoration of the World Oral Health Day, which occurs on the 20th March. The initiative of pro bono surgeries is a response to help alleviate the rising statistics of children with ECC at public hospitals, who cannot afford exorbitant theatre costs and subsequently have to wait for a period of two to three years before receiving actual treatment, meanwhile they suffer the negative impact this disease has on their overall well-being, including continued pain, chewing and biting difficulties, weight loss, sleeping difficulties, low self-esteem etc.
In 2022, ten (10) kids benefited for the programme and for 2023, twenty (20) kids have already been identified. 14 surgeries will be performed on the 31st March 2023, hosted at the Nelson Mandela Children's Hospital, Parktown and the other 6, at one of the hospitals in Pretoria.
