It's my 40th! Help me raise R40,000 for MARES.

It's my 40th birthday on 26 February 2023 and instead of throwing a party or receiving gifts, what I'd really love is to raise R40,000 for MARES Donkey Sanctuary in Zimbabwe and I need your help!

I first learnt about MARES through an organisation called Network for Animals and was deeply moved by the heartbreaking and uplifting story of Althea the axed donkey in 2021.

MARES (Matabeleland Animal Rescue & Equine Sanctuary) have had to deal with plenty of other donkey cruelty cases prior to this and since; and the incredible work they do is worthy of praise and admiration. Not only do they rescue and care for abandoned donkeys, but they also help birds, tortoises, hedgehogs, cats and dogs - pretty much any creature in need that crosses their path. They also provide harnesses to donkey owners in the community and assist with education to ensure these gentle animals are properly cared for.

Donkeys are such sweet and sentient creatures, with an enormous capacity for forgiveness. While there are many deserving local charities (many of which I've helped with websites and donation platforms), it is my impression that MARES is receiving very little support from local government and law enforcement and are managing to do so much good against all odds. I'm using this Quicket platform as their fees are the most reasonable. All funds raised after their deduction up to R40,000 will go to MARES. If this fundraiser manages to bring in even more than that (fingers and toes crossed!), any additional money raised will go to the Have a Heart Equine Sanctuary in Bonnievale, South Africa - another very worth charity who are desperately in need of support.
