According to The Business of Education in Africa Report, produced by The Investment and Advisory Firm Caerus Capital, the private sector can help address Africa’s educational challenges, if investors and policymakers together seize the opportunities. o According to the United Nations World Population Prospects, over 60% of Africa’s population is currently under 25, with Africa containing 19% of the global population of 15- to 24-year-olds.

By 2035, sub-Saharan Africa will have a working population larger than the entire rest of the world combined. In contrast, other workforces in the world are aging. The above-mentioned references are highlighted to call you to action; to respond to the dire need of a young African who needs access and guidance. Young people across the continent are important to creating structural change.

OVERVIEW

With the current pandemic, a lot of children have dropped out of school, there is an increase in teenage pregnancies, some have lost hope whilst others remain isolated with no role models and are not aware of the various opportunities that exist in Aviation & STEM which would also help break cycles of poverty. The impact of such a camp is substantial.

ALA was founded by two African women in the aviation sector, who overcame many obstacles and fought many battles to realize their dreams. In pursuit of their wings, they realized how there is not enough information, programs, or support for aviation nor STEM fields, particularly in the aviation sector which is why ALA is passionate about its work.

TESTIMONIALS

ALA Mentee - Vionna Khoza

2021 Girls in Aviation Day Attendee, 17-year-old Nyasha from Zimbabwe, Africa

"The session was inspirational. I thought careers in aviation were limited to aircraft engineering and piloting, but I was proved wrong. I got to know about Air Traffic Control and how Software Engineering also plays a role in aviation. The best part for me would be when those amazing ladies told their great stories of how they might have just found themselves in aviation and were loving their careers. It was quite inspiring considering that I am currently in a serious state of confusion concerning careers. I was particularly amazed by the amount of passion in the whole session. There was this young lady who was already a junior pilot at 19. Most of them mentioned how they had fallen in love with aviation at a young age. I feel that the session also inspired me to stop being ignorant and broaden my knowledge of the many careers in various fields."
