IThemba Lethu Durban

About

#BUILDINGALEGACY #TOGETHERWECAN

It takes many drops to form a river!

Every person that adds their heads, hearts and hands to reducing vulnerability in babies, children, young people or families in Durban, South Africa helps to bring greater healing and restoration!

So whether you are wading on the advocacy banks, building bridges of reconciliation through adoption/education or filling buckets with the necessary resources – it is ultimately your commitment to partner with an established NGO partner like iThemba Lethu, that makes the difference!

Since 2001, iThemba Lethu has been placing vulnerable babies/children into permanent families, in addition to equipping the youth and leaders of tomorrow with belief & hope through life skills education to help them make wiser lifestyle decisions, and then empowering their parents/caregivers to build resilient home units too!

We have 3 main programme areas.

  1. Family Integration Programme: We have two transition homes that care for up to 12 orphaned/abandoned children & facilitate their reunification/adoption into healthy sustainable families.
  2. HIV Prevention Programme: We actively work in 6 schools in Cato Manor, Durban, with our behavioural change education intervention for grade 5 – 9 pupils (10 – 18 years old). As part of this programme we also engage with the learners family units to offer them support and invest in income generating opportunities & community upliftment. We also focus on Fatherhood and run a programme with the men in the community.
  3. The Breastmilk Bank: Our Breastmilk Bank, affords breastfeeding mothers, the opportunity to donate their excess breastmilk to vulnerable, abandoned and orphaned babies in the iThemba Lethu transition homes and surrounding hospitals.

Help us continue to make a difference in the community through the work that we do.

Together we can make a difference! Together we can build a legacy!
