Feed Hungry School Children
About
Please help us to feed children at school because you can’t teach a hungry child
3 out of 4 children in the Western Cape go to school hungry every day - you can help us to make a difference.
The Peninsula School Feeding Association (PSFA) is a 63-year-old registered non-profit organisation that addresses hunger in young learners affected by poverty attending primary, secondary and special needs schools as well as Orphaned and Vulnerable Children Centres (OVCs) and Early Childhood Development Centres (ECDCs) and Technical and Vocational Education and Training Colleges (TVETs) in the Western Province.
Over and above the ingredients for a set weekly menu supplied to each educational institution on our feeding programme, PSFA also provides gas stoves, gas bottles, gas when needed, pots, plates, eating spoons and cooking utensils. PSFA empowers and trains members of the community, usually unemployed parents, to prepare and serve meals at each of the schools. PSFA provides each volunteer with a monthly stipend.
Thanks to donations received, the Peninsula School Feeding Association (PSFA) has for the past 63 years been able to serve over 1.8 billion daily nutritious meals to hungry school children.
How much to donate?
The cost to provide one child with breakfast and lunch while at school for a day is R2.75.
- Feed a child for a month - a donation of R82.50 will enable PSFA to provide a child with daily cooked breakfasts and lunches while at school for an entire month.
- Feed a child for a year - a donation of R495.00 will enable PSFA to provide a child with daily cooked breakfasts and lunches while at school for an entire year.
- You can enter any amount
100% of all donations made to PSFA are used to purchase ingredients for a set weekly school menu.
Your donation will positively impact the learners in the following ways:
- Decrease their short term hunger
- Increase their attendance and performance at school
- Enhance their ability to learn
- Nutritious meals will assist in building their immune systems especially during this COVID-19 pandemic
- Increase their energy resulting in improved concentration in the classroom
- Decreasing the dropout rate of the learners at school
- Poverty alleviation – our feeding programme provides peace of mind to the learners’ parents/guardians who are unable to afford to provide their children/wards with nutritious meals while at home
- Will allow children to grow to their full potential resulting in productive citizens, who will, in turn, contribute to South Africa’s economy
We thank you in advance for considering to support this special appeal.
