The Resurrection of Hamlet

What happens when a Shakespearean tragedy is reborn through an African lens?

In The Resurrection of Hamlet, Femi Osofisan reimagines Shakespeare’s timeless tragedy within late 20th-century Africa, weaving together themes of power, betrayal and identity with traditional African rituals, music and performance. Blurring the boundaries between reality and theatre, this bold postcolonial retelling challenges familiar narratives and breathes new life into a story that refuses to die.
