ABOUT
A Scar Named Home
By PG LP stage students, AFDA Jhb in the QUAD at AFDA
In a society that quietly abandons its youth, A Scar Named Home follows the story of young people navigating survival in the margins of a system that was meant to protect them but instead shapes their downfall. Reimagined into a site-specific performance at the AFDA, Jhb Campus, this story follows four characters who carry wounds which are loss, poverty, neglect, and disillusionment yet they are bound by a shared reality. A government and social structure that fails to see them until it is too late. As they confront impossible choices, their actions begin to reflect the very violence and instability that surrounds them. What emerges is not just a story of “bad decisions,” but a deeper insight of how circumstance and systemic neglect shape identity. Through their intersecting journeys, the play exposes how home (South Africa), meant to be a place of safety can become a lasting scar, etched into who they are and who they are forced to become.
