Supper & Sounds: An Intimate Year-End Gathering with Itai Hakim

The Black Power Station
ABOUT
The Experience:
For one night only, we are transforming the space into a sanctuary for food, conversation, and live acoustic storytelling.
"Supper & Sound" is an end-of-year gathering designed to slow down the noise of the year. It is an invitation to share a thoughtfully curated meal, connect with friends and community, and experience live music in a setting that prioritises deep listening over spectacle.
The Artist: Itai Hakim
Itai Hakim is a Johannesburg-based musician, performance poet, and composer who reshapes Southern African folklore into contemporary, socially resonant art. Rooted in Tshivenda and Xitsonga musical traditions, his practice moves fluidly between folk-soul guitar, spoken word, and storytelling.
At the center of his work is intent rather than genre. He approaches sound as a site of convergence between tradition and experimentation. Whether closing the Democracy Works Foundation Climate Solutions Forum, performing at TEDxJohannesburg, or playing an intimate room, Hakim uses deliberate, rhythmic storytelling to create a shared space of reflection.
His words land like a conversation you didn’t know you needed to have, exploring how cultural memory and collective healing can be felt and rehearsed in real-time.

The Culinary Experience:
Complementing the sonic landscape is a bespoke, end-of-year menu curated by our chef.
"Focusing on locally sourced Eastern Cape ingredients, TBPS creates dishes that are both comforting and inventive, designed to be shared and savoured alongside live music."
The Venue:
Proudly hosted at The Black Power Station (TBPS), Makhanda. A historic, culturally resonant space that has long served as a vital hub for creative exchange in the Eastern Cape, providing the perfect acoustic and atmospheric backdrop for this gathering.
