ABOUT
UKUNGCAMLA KWALANGA is A Curated Multi-Sensory Food Experience
Sunday, 1 November 2026 | 12pm – 3pm
VENUE: 22 Bitterhout Street KwaLanga, Cape Town
Join Umpheki Ekuhlaleni for an afternoon of food, storytelling and connection as we explore the food culture of KwaLanga.
Ukungcamla KwaLanga is part of a two weeks residency program by Hae Emakhaya, which Lipato ( Umpheki Ekuhlaleni ) spent time volunteering with local food organisations and businesses, learning from community members and exploring the people, practices and stories that shape the local food system.
This gathering brings those discoveries to the table through food , conversation and shared experiences. It is an opportunity to celebrate local knowledge, appreciate the people behind our food, and explore how food connects us to place, memory and community.
WHAT TO EXPECT
Expect an afternoon of food, storytelling, cultural exchange and meaningful connection. We will share food inspired by the residency ( Umpheki Ekuhlaleni ) and the ingredients, people and stories encountered along the way.
Through this experience, we will celebrate KwaLanga’s food culture, exchange knowledge and create space for conversations about our food heritage and the role food plays in bringing people together.
