This Week’s Topic: Alternative Story Arcs
What happens when a story doesn’t follow the familiar rise and fall?
This week, we’ll explore a range of story arcs to add to your writing toolkit. Stories can move in circles, unfold through fragments, follow an inward transformation or leave us with questions still unanswered. How does the shape of a story change what we experience as readers? And how do you choose a structure that serves the story you want to tell?
Through a guided writing exercise, you’ll experiment with an alternative story arc, exploring how a different structure can shift your character’s journey, build tension and create an unexpected ending. Come ready to experiment—you don’t need any previous experience, just curiosity about the different shapes a story can take.
