Dalisu Ndlazi

Join us at Sankayi on Friday, 6 November 2026, for an evening with South African bassist Dalisu Ndlazi, whose playing is defined by deep groove, swing, musical sensitivity and an instinctive connection to the ensemble.

Born in Umlazi Township, Durban, Dalisu began his musical journey at the Siyakhula Community Music Centre. He became a member of the Standard Bank National Schools Big Band in 2012 and the Standard Bank National Youth Band from 2015 to 2017, before studying Jazz and Popular Music at the University of KwaZulu-Natal. In 2019, he attended the SATCHMO Summer Jazz Camp in New Orleans through the Geleza Cleva and Learn Programme.

Since relocating to Johannesburg in 2021, Dalisu has established himself as a sought-after bassist, performing and recording with South African and international artists. He currently tours internationally with pianist and composer Nduduzo Makhathini’s Trio.

His presentation, The Culmination, reflects on the family, friends, mentors, teachers and community whose support has shaped his personal and creative development. It explores readiness not as a final destination, but as an ongoing process of growth, learning and becoming.
