ABOUT

Title: Come Stay With Me — Private Screening & Conversation

ABOUT

An evening of film, conversation and connection on the rooftop of The Grand Daddy, in support of the Saartjie Baartman Centre for Women and Children.

Come Stay With Me is a short documentary created by Create Lasting Change and Ruben de Kemp in collaboration with the Saartjie Baartman Centre. Set in the Cape Flats near Athlone, it goes beyond the familiar images of Cape Town and into a reality that often goes unseen. The film follows women affected by gender-based violence in communities also shaped by gang violence, and why leaving an abusive relationship is so much harder than it may seem from the outside.

Through their stories and the daily work of the Centre, the film captures vulnerability, strength and resilience on the long road towards safety and independence.

The film premieres under the open sky as night falls over the city. Afterwards, the people behind it will talk about what it took to make it and why it matters.

ABOUT THE PARTNERS

The Saartjie Baartman Centre for Women and Children opened in 1999 as the first one-stop centre in South Africa for women and children who are survivors of abuse. Based in Manenberg on the Cape Flats, it brings emergency shelter, residential care, counselling, legal support and economic empowerment together under one roof, free of charge, 365 days a year. Over its 25-year history, the Centre has supported more than 270,000 women and children.

Create Lasting Change is a non-profit focused on preventing violence through education, awareness and early intervention. It supports carefully vetted projects for abused women and children, animal welfare and the environment, including the Saartjie Baartman Centre. The team works entirely on a voluntary basis, so 100% of every donation goes directly to the cause.
