Michaela Rabitsch & Robert Pawlik Quartet at Sankayi Jazz Series

Sankayi Jazz Series welcomes Austrian jazz duo Michaela Rabitsch and Robert Pawlik, joined by South African musicians Dalisu Ndlazi on bass and Ayanda Sikade on drums, on Friday, 23 October.

Michaela Rabitsch, singer, composer and Austria’s only female top jazz trumpet player, has been described as a modern-day female Chet Baker by US magazine Jazzscene. With her partner, composer and guitarist Robert Pawlik, she presents original music rooted in jazz traditions including hard bop, swing, modern jazz, New Orleans Second Line, and blues, while drawing on elements of Indian, African, Balkan, and Latin American music. Their music is shaped by nearly 2,000 concerts across 52 countries, from intimate jazz clubs to major international festivals.

Known as Vienna’s “first couple of Jazz”, Rabitsch and Pawlik have developed a distinctive sound that balances cool relaxation with funky grooves, sophistication with accessibility. Their original compositions have taken them to festivals and concert halls across four continents, including the Tokyo Jazz Festival, Havana Jazz Festival and Cape Town International Jazz Festival, where they became the first Austrian band invited to perform.
