ABOUT
The Wild Crew @ The Sheds: Flowers and Pollinators
“Spring is sprung and the grass is riz, I wonder where the flower is…….”
Birds, bees, and other pollinators are definitely out and about in search of the beautiful veld flowers popping up everywhere now that spring is here – and on Saturday the 12th we will be joining them!
Of course, our search won’t just be flowers, but for the pollinators too. We’ll find out all about the fascinating ways in which fluorescents’ have adapted to attract their preferred guests and how these guests pick up the pollen for delivery to another flower, all for the purpose of making new seeds.
Back at base the the crew will have the opportunity to see, through a microscope, the intricate make-up of flowers that allow for this remarkable process to take place and learn exactly how pollination works. The final step will be to build their own flower, pollen and all, to demonstrate this ingenious system. A fun quiz to match flowers with their specific pollination partners will end the mornings activities.
Somewhere in between all this activity we will find the time for the snack packs.
