Andile Yenana at Sankayi Jazz Series

Sankayi Jazz Series welcomes South African jazz pianist, composer, producer, band leader and music director Andile Yenana on Friday, 2 October.

Born in King William’s Town in the Eastern Cape, Yenana studied under Darius Brubeck at the University of Natal’s pioneering School of Jazz and Popular Music. His career has included collaborations with some of South Africa’s leading musicians, including Zim Ngqawana, Steve Dyer, Sibongile Khumalo, Gloria Bosman, Suthukazi Arosi, Feya Faku and Herbie Tsoaeli. He has also worked extensively as an arranger, producer and music director.

Yenana’s career has taken him across South Africa and internationally, with performances at venues and festivals including the Royal Albert Hall, North Sea Jazz Festival, Montreux Jazz Festival, London Jazz Festival and Ronnie Scott’s Jazz Club. He was awarded a SAMA for Best Producer for his work on Winston Mankunku Ngozi’s Abantwana be Afrika, and his own recordings include We Used To Dance, Who’s Got The Map? and Way Out Is In.
