ABOUT

Are you an autistic adult looking for a relaxed, judgment-free space to meet like-minded people? Join us on Saturday, the 29th of August, from 10 am -11 am (SAST) for an online social event designed specifically for autistic adults, where you can connect, chat, and share experiences in the comfort of your own home from anywhere in the world!

Whether you’re interested in making new friends, discussing special interests, or just being part of a community that truly gets you, this event is for you!

Our Guest Speaker for this event is Hythem Betts, the founder of New Horizons Consulting, where he supports individuals and families in navigating life's challenges through counselling, trauma healing, and neurodivergent-focused support. Born to Canadian parents and raised in the Middle East, Hythem now lives in South Africa with his wife and daughter. His own experience witnessing under-supported foreigners abroad, combined with a personal autism diagnosis, has shaped his deep commitment to helping others process the unpredictable parts of life.

Hythem holds a Diploma in Social Studies & Counselling Skills from the ARLT Foundation (2024) and a Certificate in Classic Trauma Healing from The Trauma Healing Institute (2018), combining this formal training with years of hands-on practical experience.

At New Horizons, Hythem's work centres on three key areas:

  • Building understanding between neurodivergent individuals and the people around them, helping to reduce tension and frustration in relationships
  • Trauma-informed counselling, offering a safe space to process past experiences and move forward without being defined by them
  • Practical skills coaching, equipping clients with new tools, habits, and strategies to face life's challenges with greater confidence and flexibility

Join us to hear from Hythem as he shares his insights on building bridges of understanding, processing life's unpredictable moments, and developing the toolkit needed to thrive.

What to Expect:

Structured, yet casual socialising – We’ll have discussion topics to help start conversations. You can join in at your own pace.

No pressure to talk – Participate in a way that’s comfortable for you. You’re welcome to listen, type in the chat, or speak when you feel ready.

Autism-friendly facilitation – The event is hosted by someone who is also autistic and understands sensory and social needs. No forced interactions, no overwhelming environments—just a calm, welcoming space.
