ABOUT
The Wild Crew @ The Sheds: Insects
With a zoom and a buzzzz at this Wild Crew outing: All About Insects
What do we actually know about insects and how much thought do we give to their importance? Do we even notice them unless they are inconveniencing us in some way?
At this Wild Crew outing we will be taking a good look at these little critters and learning all about their social behaviour (yes, even insects have social behaviour), their life cycles and what they do for the environment and for us.
The microscopes will be out with some fascinating things to study up close and as we go off into the veld we will be taking along some sweep nets to see just what might be hiding out in the long grass. Since creativity is always such an integral part of our outings our project this month will be to make the cutest insects ever by recycling bottle tops.
For those children who are forever hungry, which we realize is probably all of them, we will also be making edible life cycles. A snack pack is also provided in case the life cycle doesn’t do the trick.
This informative and fun-packed outing will be taking place at The Sheds @ Bird Song on Gemstone Road (off the R511) Crocodile River Reserve on Saturday the 15th of August, 8h30 to 12h00. The cost is R90 per child.
Bring hats, water bottles, and a wild spirit.
