ABOUT

A Day of Movement, Breath, Connection & Community

Join us for the Dr Phil-Afel Foundation’s first Wellness Day Fundraiser at The Lookout, Zandvlei. Across five 45-minute sessions, our facilitators will guide you through Pilates, Hatha Yoga, Qi cultivation and breathwork, movement and play, and Yin Yoga with a restorative sound journey. Come for one session, choose a few, or spend the full day with us. Whether you’re completely new to wellness practices or already have an established practice, you’re welcome. Most importantly, your day of wellbeing will help support ours, every ticket helps raise funds for the Foundation’s ongoing community programmes.

About the Dr Phil-Afel Foundation

The Dr Phil-Afel Foundation NPC is a Cape Town-based nonprofit working alongside communities facing persistent social and economic challenges. Much of our work is rooted in the Valley of Plenty in Hanover Park, where our programmes support children, women, young people, families and the wider community. We have also recently begun our Reform & Reintegration Programme at Pollsmoor Correctional Centre, supporting rehabilitation, personal development and successful reintegration.

The Sessions

10:30–11:15 | Pilates with Hayley Stoffberg

Start your day with a beginner-friendly Pilates mat class focused on core stability, mindful movement and strengthening the connection between mind and body. Hayley Stoffberg is a certified Pilates, Yoga and Dance instructor who has been teaching movement since 2013. Within the Foundation, Hayley leads She Rises, our 22-module Women’s Empowerment Programme supporting marginalised women in the Valley of Plenty.

11:30–12:15 | Hatha Yoga with Chad Cupido

A traditional, slower-paced Hatha Yoga practice combining physical postures, conscious breathing and meditation. Gentle and accessible for different experience levels, including those new to yoga. Chad Cupido is a certified yoga teacher who has been teaching since 2016 and trained through Rishikesh Yog Peeth in India. He founded Omni Yoga Cape Town, which later evolved into Omni Wellness Media, and is also a Founder of the Dr Phil-Afel Foundation.

12:30–13:15 | Qi Cultivation, Breathwork & Imaginative Experience with Rome Naidoo

Reconnect with your body, breath and inner energy through simple Qi cultivation exercises, conscious breathing and a guided imaginative experience designed to cultivate presence, vitality and inner connection. Rome Naidoo is the founder of Rome Naidoo Coaching, where he works with men around self-awareness, emotional regulation and grounded leadership. Within the Foundation, Rome is the Programme Lead for Brothers from the Hood, our mentorship and development programme for young men run in partnership with Embodied Brotherhood.

13:30–14:15 | Move, Play & Groove with Kirsten Adams & Chazz Jurd

A joyful guided headset movement experience using music, play and expression. Move freely, have fun and reconnect with your body — no dance or movement experience needed. Just come as you are. Kirsten Adams and Chazz Jurd of The Butterfly Effect are both actively involved in the Foundation. Kirsten leads the women’s component of our Pollsmoor Reform & Reintegration Programme, while Chazz is involved in Brothers from the Hood and also supports our Pollsmoor programme. Children are welcome to this session and must attend with a parent or guardian. This session is especially suitable and recommended for families wanting to participate together.

14:30–15:15 | Yin Yoga & Sound Journey with Hayley Stoffberg

Close the day with a slow, gentle Yin Yoga flow, holding postures for longer to encourage release and stillness, followed by a restorative sound journey designed to leave you feeling grounded and deeply relaxed. Children are also welcome to join this session with a parent or guardian if they are comfortable with a quiet, slower experience and longer periods of stillness.

Doors open at 10:15. Short breaks between sessions give you time to rest, enjoy refreshments and connect with the Foundation team.

Where Your Support Goes

What makes this Wellness Day especially meaningful is that the people facilitating the sessions are also actively involved in the Dr Phil-Afel Foundation and the programmes this event is supporting. After approved event expenses, proceeds will help strengthen and grow our ongoing community work. Through Brothers from the Hood, we want to deepen mentorship opportunities for young men and build a pathway where participants can eventually grow into peer mentors and leaders themselves. Through She Rises, we want to equip women with greater confidence, resilience, practical skills, financial awareness and stronger pathways toward independence and opportunity. Through our Pollsmoor Reform & Reintegration Programme, we want to strengthen life coaching, personal development and practical reintegration support so participants are better prepared to rebuild their lives, relationships and futures after release. A portion of proceeds will also support the Foundation’s wider work with children, families and the community, together with the practical operating needs that keep our programmes active and accessible. By joining us for Wellness Day, you’re not only supporting the work we do today - you’re helping us build what comes next.

Want to Give a Little More?

You’ll also have the option to make an additional voluntary donation at checkout. We’re aiming to raise R15,000 in voluntary donations alongside ticket sales to help support the practical needs behind our programmes, including transport, venues, meals, workshop materials, children’s activities, outings and other essential resources. Every contribution helps us continue showing up consistently for the people and communities we work alongside.

Ticket purchases do not qualify as Section 18A donations. Section 18A certificates may be issued for qualifying bona fide donations made to the Foundation.
