More on the Artists
Sarah Blake is a Cape Town-born vocalist, composer, and multi-instrumentalist whose genre-blending music draws from jazz, soul, folk, and groove traditions. Whether anchoring the rhythm on upright bass or delivering searing vocals from behind a guitar, Sarah leads with disarming charm and fierce musicality.
She studied jazz composition at the South African College of Music, continued her training in New York, and later spent three years living and performing in the Netherlands, where she honed her voice as a songwriter and performer. Her international journey has shaped a sound that feels both rooted and borderless—intimate yet expansive.
Her discography includes the debut EP The Journey (2021)(a tribute to her late father), the full-length album Food For Thought(2024), and another EP Out Of Place (2026). Much of her original work grapples with love, grief, nature, transformation, and connection—stories that resonate widely and cut deep.
Sarah brings both virtuosity and vulnerability to the stage. With every performance, she offers more than just music—she offers presence, poetry, and a story that audiences carry long after the final note.
After his 2019 debut, in only 5 years of performing, writing, and touring, Hugo Veldsman has solidified himself within the Folk and Roots scene of Southern Africa. He has shared the stage with some of the country’s top musical exports, his lapsteel guitar a quintessential feature within his performances and creative output, channelling his love for Americana and Blues.
His style is further rooted with his “alternative folk” songwriting, heavily influenced by his finger picking technique from training as a classical guitarist at the Stellenbosch Conservatorium. Hugo Veldsman and his band has captured audiences (big and small) with soft worded songs of hope and meaning to rompin’ stompin’ blues straight out of a Mississippi bayou.
