The kykNET Silwerskerm Festival offers a platform for emerging talent and recognises the significant role that academic institutions play in training and inspiring young filmmakers. After many years, a category especially for student films returns to the festival. The top film schools from across the country were approached to submit their films for selection, and only the cream of the crop is screened at the festival. Fresh talent. Fearless stories. This is where it all starts.

Cadence verras sy meisie, Ash, met Ziggy – ’n volgroeide man in ’n pak klere wat presies soos ’n troeteldierhond optree. Aanvanklik is dit alles ’n grap. Cadence voer hom lekkernye, leer hom toertjies, en Ash bou ’n band met hom asof hy ’n regte klein hondjie is. Maar onder die oppervlak broei spanning. Ash begin haar hart teenoor Ziggy uitstort. Sy deel haar onsekerhede en ontbloot die wanbalans in haar verhouding met Cadence. Terwyl Cadence meer aggressief en baasspelerig teenoor Ziggy begin optree, begin Ash om Ziggy meer soos ’n vertroueling as ’n hond te behandel en span sy Ziggy selfs in om haar op Cadence te wreek. Ziggy se ingewikkelde rol in die huishouding raak te veel vir hom, en sy werklikheid disintegreer. Uiteindelik eis Ziggy sy menslikheid op die mees dierlike wyse denkbaar terug en dwing hy Cadence, wat die marionetmeester was, om te sit en te gehoorsaam.

Cadence surprises his girlfriend, Ash, with Ziggy – a fully grown man in a suit who behaves exactly like a pet dog. At first, it’s played for laughs. Cadence feeds him treats, teaches him tricks, and Ash bonds with him as if he were a real puppy. But underneath the absurdity, deeper tensions begin to surface. Ash starts to confide in Ziggy, exposing her insecurities and the imbalance in her relationship with Cadence. As Cadence’s control over Ziggy grows more aggressive and performative, Ash begins treating Ziggy less like a dog and more like a confidant, or even a tool for revenge. Ziggy, stuck in this twisted domestic role, starts to crack. Eventually, Ziggy reclaims his humanity in the most primal way possible, forcing Cadence, once the puppet master, to sit and obey.

Kaptein Talia Valentine is ’n ambisieuse jong ruimtevaarder wat op pad terug na die Aarde teëspoed optel en ’n noodlanding op ’n godverlate asteroïde maak. Laika is ’n klein hawelose hondjie van die strate van Moskou wat al baie lank op dieselfde asteroïde gestrand is. Talia wil met alle geweld van hierdie godverlate rots wegkom. Dit lyk egter of Laika bloot opgewonde is om iemand te hê om mee te speel. Maar wanneer pogings om haar ruimteskip te herstel misluk en daar onverwagte kommunikasie tussen Talia en die Aarde is, besef sy Laika is dalk die sleutel tot haar pad huis toe – waar dit ook al mag wees.

Captain Talia Valentine is an ambitious young astronaut, whose return to Earth is interrupted when she crash-lands on a lonely asteroid. Laika is a little stray dog from the streets of Moscow, who has been stranded on that same asteroid for a very long time. Talia only wants to get off this godforsaken rock. Laika just seems thrilled to have someone to play with her. But when attempts to fix her spaceship fail, and unexpected communications bridge the expanse between Talia and the Earth, she realises Laika may be the key to finding her way home – wherever that ends up being.

’n Man en ’n vrou beweeg deur ’n woud op pad na ’n belofte van iets aan die anderkant. A man and a woman move through the woods towards a promise of something beyond. As they travel, their views diverge, shaping their responses to what surrounds them. Signs, some acknowledged and others ignored, emerge along the way as their journey carries them toward what they believe awaits them.

Alleen saam met haar gesedeerde kamermaat in 'n psigiatriese saal, oorleef Annemerie, 'n siek jong vrou in haar vroeë twintigs, die nag deur als wat sy kan, te eet totdat dit weer opkom. Sy's op soek na die verligting wat haar bly ontwyk. Alone with her sedated roommate Jeanie in a psychiatric ward, Annemerie, a sick young woman in her early twenties, spends the night eating everything in sight until it comes back up. She's chasing a release that never lasts. Between the hospital room and strange, performative cutaways, she narrates her own unraveling like a joke, keeping things light and cute, swerving away the moment anything gets too real, until Danie's name comes up and the performance finally cracks, and every apology she's owed and never given starts pressing at the door of the ward. Will she let them in, and can anything on the other side actually free her, or is she doomed to stay sick?
