ABOUT
Gareth Lubbe, a South African-born violist, violinist, and overtone singer, is internationally known for his wide-ranging collaborations with artists from many genres and for his versatility as a musician. A sought-after chamber musician, Gareth is invited to perform regularly with artists such as Boris Brovtsyn, Janine Jansen, Mischa Maisky and Pinchas Zukerman. He performs on the world’s leading stages such as the Berlin Philharmonie, the Concertgebouw in Amsterdam, Wigmore Hall in London and Carnegie Hall in New York. In addition, Gareth also performs as a permanent artist and teacher at leading festivals in Finland, England, South Korea, Japan and Brazil, among others.
He will be performing with the Johannesburg Philharmonic Orchestra for their Spring season, nd this recital will be exclusive to the Johannesburg Musical Society - made more special as he will be collaborating with his equally talented pianist wife Hanna Heinmaa and the programme will highlight his unique expertise as master of both violin and viola. This really is a rare opportunity and not to be missed.

The Johannesburg Musical Society 2026 Series features prestigious artists from Spain, Bulgaria, Russia, Azerbaijan, France, the UK and South Africa. Eight specially curated concerts shine the spotlight squarely on pianists, with a sprinkling of strings. All the artists have won multiple competitions and are highly sought after soloists and chamber musicians.
All Concerts take place on Sunday afternoons at 15:00 in the Linder Auditorium, Wits Education Campus, Parktown. There is safe, easy to find parking and on-site refreshments of coffee, tea, wine and snacks.
