ABOUT

A Circle of Women, Rhythm & Wellbeing

"When the drum is silent, the village looses its voice." Traditional African saying

Across cultures and throughout history, rhythm has brought people together. It calms the nervous system, releases stress and negative emotions, creates connection, and reminds us that we belong.

You are warmly invited to join the Release Heal Renew Women’s Drum Circle in Constantia for a restorative day of rhythm, stress release, connection, joy and wellbeing.

Together, we will learn simple West African djembe rhythms in a relaxed and welcoming environment. No previous drumming experience is needed. Every woman, regardless of her musical ability, can participate with ease and enjoy the experience from the very first beat.

The steady pulse of the drum has a profound effect on both body and mind. Drumming can help regulate the nervous system, release accumulated stress, improve mood, and restore a sense of calm and balance. As the circle settles into a shared rhythm, something quietly beautiful unfolds; strangers become companions, individual voices become one, and a deep sense of joy, presence, and belonging naturally emerges.

Drum Circle will be facilitated by Metka Zurman Volkwyn, Life Coach, Trauma Release Provider, retreat facilitator, and djembe player. Having learnt traditional West African rhythms from Ghanaian Djembefola Master Manan Ajimah, Metka offers a welcoming experience that honours both the rich heritage of the music and the healing power of women gathering in community.

What to expect:

  • No drumming experience required
  • Djembe drums provided
  • Learn simple accessible West African djembe rhythms
