Dié filmprojek bemagtig filmmakers om ware verhale te vertel deur kort dokumentêre te ontwikkel en te vervaardig. Dis ’n projek wat uit die staanspoor suksesvol was en vlugtig uitgebrei het om ’n hele nuwe genre vastrapplek op die feesprogram te gee, met Silwerskermtoekenningskategorieë wat uitmuntende prestasies vier.
The Silwerskerm Short Documentary Project enables filmmakers to develop and produce short documentaries, telling real-life stories. This project was successful from the get-go and has grown quickly, enabling an entire new genre to find footing on the festival programme, with award categories recognising outstanding achievements.

Die gees agter die spiere explores the work of Dr Henning Gericke – a highly influential sports psychologist for, among others, the Springbok team, yet unknown to the general public. This intimate, inspiring documentary goes beyond the match and arena. It sheds light on the personal stories, adversity, challenges and victories of some of South Africa’s world-class athletes, presenting them as symbols of hope.

Bedags sweet Terence Opperman by ’n steenkoolmyn in Witbank. Snags gee hy as “The Highlander” sy teenstanders op die armdruktafel hel. Terence ken die soet smaak van oorwinning, maar ook die skerp byt van verlies. In armdruk vind hy ’n uitlaatklep. Op die tafel kan hy die enorme druk van sy skouers afgooi en dit deur sy opponent jaag. Maar as hy uiteindelik die wêreldkampioen in armdruk wil word, sal hy met sy aartsvyand, Niekie Fourie, moet afreken – en om dit reg te kry, sal hy alles en meer moet gee. Druk dit! gee ’n intieme blik op ’n subkultuur en die menslike drang om vas te klou – aan hoop, aan identiteit en aan mekaar.
By day, Terence Opperman toils at a coal mine in Witbank. At night, he turns into “The Highlander” who gives his opponents hell at the arm-wrestling table. He knows the sweet taste of victory, but also the sharp bite of defeat. In arm-wrestling, he finds a release valve. At the table, he can take the enormous pressure on his shoulders and channel it straight through his opponent. But if he wants to become the world arm-wrestling champion at last, he’ll have to beat his nemesis, Niekie Fourie – and to do that, he’ll have to give everything and more. Druk dit! offers an intimate glimpse into a subculture and the human urge to hold on – to hope, to identity and to one another.

An impulsive online purchase leads Stefanus Nel to a painting and a mysterious scrapbook believed to have belonged to Vladimir Tretchikoff, whose works have sold for millions. What starts as curiosity quickly turns into an obsession. Stefanus and his anxious dachshund, Rocky, embark on an adventure that leads them from art experts and auction houses to laboratories and scientific testing. As the investigation reveals what lies beneath the paint, it leads them to the artist’s family and granddaughter. But is it a real Tretchikoff, and is it his to keep?
