KORTFILMPROJEK – Opkomende Filmmakers | SHORT FILM PROJECT – Rising Filmmakers
Die Silwerskermfees-kortfilmprojek bied opkomende filmmakers die geleentheid om kortfilms te ontwikkel en te vervaardig met die finansiële steun en mentorskap van die fees. Hierdie inisiatief het ’n lanseerplatform gebied aan talle nou bekende filmmakers om die bedryf te betree en hulself te vestig. Die projek het oor die afgelope paar jaar eksponensieel gegroei en het uitgebrei na verskeie kortfilmkategorieë.
The Silwerskerm Short Film Project grants rising filmmakers the opportunity to develop and produce short films with the financial backing and mentorship of the festival. This initiative has offered a platform to numerous now well-known filmmakers to enter and establish themselves in the industry. The project has grown exponentially over the last couple of years and has branched out into various short film categories.

Marc is as tiener uit die huis verstoot nadat hy die waarheid omtrent sy seksualiteit onthul het en sy pa dit nie kon aanvaar nie. Jare later keer hy terug – nie net uit ’n pligsgevoel nie, maar omdat dit moontlik die laaste kans is om die stukke van sy gebroke verlede weer aanmekaar te sit. Sy pa, nou verlore in die spookwêreld van Alzheimer’s, herken hom nie meer nie. Hy verwar hom met sy ander seun, wat in herinnering bewaar is, onaangeraak deur teleurstelling of tyd. Marc kies om nie sy pa reg te help nie en onderwerp homself aan ’n stille, pynlike proses: om uiteindelik werklik gesien te word.
Marc was cast out of his home as a teenager after revealing a truth about his sexuality that his father could not accept. Years later, Marc returns – not only out of obligation, but because this might be the last time he can piece together his fractured past. His father, now lost in the confusing, shifting world of Alzheimer’s, no longer recognises him. He mistakes him for his other son, who is preserved in memory, untouched by disappointment or time. Marc chooses not to correct his father but steps into a ghostly realm and submits to a quiet, aching process: to be seen.

Freek is ’n sosiaal ongemaklike jong man wat hom van die wêreld afgesluit het. Hy skuil agter sinisme en ’n stil woede, wat hy van sy emosioneel onstabiele pa geërf het. Ná ’n groot uitval met sy beste vriendin beland hy in ’n warm, verwelkomende haarsalon – ver buite sy gemaksone – waar Fernanda, ’n lewenslustige haarkapper met haar eie letsels, iets in hom herken en hom uit sy harde dop lok. Sy begin hom uitdaag om anders na homself en die mense rondom hom te kyk. Wanneer hy dan tog weer van alles en almal wil wegdraai, besef hy dat hy besig is om in die man wat hy nooit wou word nie te verander. Gaan Freek Fernanda se hand vat en die angswekkende sprong uit isolasie waag?
Freek is a socially awkward young man who has cut himself off from the world. He hides behind cynicism and a quiet rage, inherited from his emotionally unstable father. After a major fallout with his best friend, he ends up in a warm, welcoming hair salon – far outside his comfort zone – where Fernanda, a vivacious hairdresser with her own scars, recognises something in him and draws him out of his hard shell. She begins to challenge him to see himself and the people around him differently. When he wants to turn away from everything and everyone again, he realises he is turning into the man he never wanted to be. Will Freek take Fernanda’s hand and make the terrifying leap out of isolation?

Kaapstad. 2025. Ruan, ’n besturende direkteur van ’n groot korporasie, besef die nuwe kontantlose beleid wat hul moedermaatskappy vanuit Brittanje afdwing, is ’n hinderlaag. Ruan probeer om die onvermydelike te verhoed. Sy stroomopstryd word uit die oogpunt van ’n tweerand-muntstuk gewys, wat gelyk ook ’n blik in die lewens van stedelike Suid-Afrikaners gee. Elke karakter beeld ’n ander sosio-ekonomiese klas uit en daarmee saam daardie segment van die samelewing se perspektief op geld. Change wys wat dié verandering vir die uiteenlopende maar onderling verbonde ensemble van karakters verteenwoordig en vra: Wat is die betekenis van muntstukke in ’n tyd waar tik-om-te-betaal aan die orde van die dag is? En wat gaan kontantloos ons uiteindelik kos?
Cape Town. 2025. Ruan, a managing director of a large corporation, realises he’s being ambushed by a new cashless policy enforced by their mother company in the UK. From the perspective of a two-rand coin, we watch as Ruan tries to stop the inevitable. Along the way, we get glimpses into the lives of city-dwelling South Africans, with each character portraying a different socioeconomic class and perspective on money. The film shows what change represents to the distinct yet connected ensemble of characters and asks: What is the significance of coins in a time when tap to pay is the order of the day? And at what cost are we going cashless?
