ABOUT

Synopsis

A Scar Named Home is an Honours stage play that premieres at the AFDA, JHB Experimental Festival 2026. In a society that quietly abandons its youth, this play follows four young people navigating survival in the margins of a system that was meant to protect them but instead shapes their downfall. Each character carries a different wound which is loss, poverty, neglect, and disillusionment yet they are bound by a shared reality. A government and social structure that fails to see them until it is too late. As they confront impossible choices, their actions begin to reflect the very violence and instability that surrounds them. What emerges is not just a story of “bad decisions,” but a deeper insight of how circumstance and systemic neglect shape identity. Through their intersecting journeys, the play exposes how home, meant to be a place of safety, can become a lasting scar, etched into who they are and who they are forced to become.
