Sydney Mavundla

The Sankayi Jazz Series is a curated live music experience that brings some of South Africa’s leading artists into an intimate setting where music, atmosphere, and hospitality come together.

Trumpeter, composer, and bandleader Sydney Mavundla is a respected figure in South African jazz whose career spans decades of performance, collaboration, and musical leadership. Known for his warm tone, lyrical improvisation, and deep connection to the South African jazz tradition, Mavundla’s music reflects both reverence for the past and a commitment to carrying the music forward.

From his early beginnings in church brass bands to performances on major stages across South Africa and abroad, Mavundla has built a reputation as one of the country’s most expressive and respected trumpet voices.

Each evening features two live sets in a relaxed, seated environment. Guests are encouraged to arrive early and enjoy dinner before the performance.
