SEBAKA: A Reflection of Communal Spaces

Thu Jun 4, 09:00 - Sat Jun 27, 19:00

The Rooftop Gallery, 27 Boxes, Melville

ABOUT

SEBAKA: A Reflection of Communal Spaces invites audiences into a thoughtful exploration of the spaces that shape memory, conversation, creativity, and everyday Black life. Bringing together the works of Funeka Shuping, Refiloe Mnisi, Katlego Ya Modimo, and Scelo Mdladla, the exhibition reflects on how communal environments become sites of storytelling, healing, survival, and cultural exchange.

Set against the backdrop of The Rooftop Gallery at 27 Boxes, Melville, SEBAKA creates a visual dialogue around belonging, movement, intimacy, and the shared experiences that connect us across generations. Through diverse artistic practices, the exhibition captures the textures of township life, social gatherings, routine rituals, and the emotional landscapes found within collective spaces.

More than an exhibition, SEBAKA is an invitation to pause, reflect, and reconnect with the people and places that continue to shape our identities and communities.
