ABOUT
Ethics, Welfare, and When to Intervene Episode 2
Not every bird on the ground needs to be rescued.
In Episode 2 of the Parys WADER Rehabilitation Conversations series, we explore the ethical principles that guide responsible wildlife rehabilitation and how rehabilitators determine when intervention is genuinely necessary.
Understanding the difference between an injured, displaced, or orphaned bird is an important part of responsible decision-making. In some situations, intervention may save a life. In others, unnecessary removal from the wild may do more harm than good.
This session will discuss:
- The ethical foundations of wildlife rehabilitation
- Animal welfare and responsible care
- What constitutes a wildlife emergency
- The difference between injured, displaced, and orphaned birds
- How rehabilitators assess whether intervention is necessary
- Common situations where observation may be more appropriate than rescue
- The role of public awareness in reducing unnecessary admissions
This conversation is ideal for bird enthusiasts, students, conservation supporters, and community members who want to better understand responsible interaction with wildlife.
