Following a five-year hiatus, the iconic South African band has re-emerged as a six-piece ensemble, introducing audiences to Mbali’s commanding voice, magnetic stage presence, and deeply rooted connection to South African musical tradition.

Born and raised in Cape Town’s Imizamo Yethu township, Mbali’s journey reflects the spirit of modern South Africa — authentic, resilient and vibrant. Her arrival signals both an exciting evolution for Freshlyground and a continuation of the sound that made the band one of the country’s most celebrated live acts.

Fans can expect the classics they know and love, alongside newer material including songs from the band’s latest release, Take Me Home...

CONGO COWBOYS:

The Congo Cowboys blend the twangy sounds of American roots music with the rich rhythms of African traditional music. The band was formed in 2016 by three members of the South African band Freshlyground: Simon Attwell (banjo), Julio Sigauque (bass), and Congolese singer Chris Bakalanga (vocals and guitar).

The band’s music draws on the foot-stomping qualities of Bluegrass and Country, reimagined through Kwassa Kwassa African rhythms and Soukous guitar. The result is a gritty exploration of Americana and old-timey ditties, with a distinctly African twist.
