More on the Artists:
South African Music Award (SAMA) winning and nominated singer-songwriter Albert Frost hails from Cape Town, South Africa. He is renowned for his exceptional guitar skills and soulful vocals, playing rock folk blues - blending delta blues, psychedelic rock, and Afro rhythms in his performances, reflecting a deep connection to his roots. A powerhouse of emotional and energetic artistry, Frost captivates audiences with his mastery of various acoustic and electric guitars and has been a Fender endorsee for 25 years. Revered as the “South African Hendrix” and celebrated by Rolling Stone Magazine as the “Dark Prince of South African blues,” he mesmerizes listeners with his incredible talent.
Frost first gained recognition with his third independent album, The Wake Up, which won Best Rock Album at the 2017 SAMA Awards and his latest album, Sacred
Sounds, was nominated for Best Rock Album at the 2022 SAMA Awards, produced by the renowned Theo Crous from the Springbok Nude Girls.
Frost’s career has been defined by collaborations with a wide range of acclaimed artists, including Karen Zoid, Henry Ate, Ali Farka Touré, Finley Quaye, Arno
Carstens, Neil Sandilands, Tubatsi Mpho Moloi, Robin Auld and Jake Gunn. The 2017 Klein Karoo Nasionale Kunstefees saw Frost nominated for a Kanna Award and
a kykNET-Fiëstas 2018 for Best Music Production for his shows with Loki Rothman and Zolani Mahola.
Gerald Clark is a multi-award-nominated and accomplished South African musician recognized for his extraordinary voice, songwriting, and ability to tell a story with his music. He is one of SA’s top musicians and exports — a singer and songwriter famous for his voice that can get down to the soul, and for the honesty that lies within the blues and resonates through any genre he attempts.
His inspiration comes from his love for traveling and being in nature. He has traveled and performed in over 17 countries and has recently relocated to the Czech Republic, where he is now based in the little town of Trebíc.
Clark has released five successful albums, one of which, Sweepslag, was nominated for a South African Music Award (SAMA). Clark’s second album, Black Water, brought him international success when the title track’s music video was nominated for an MTV Europe Animation Award. His music has been used on national television, as well as being playlisted on the biggest radio stations in South Africa. He was also nominated for Best Solo Act in 2016 at one of SA’s biggest art and culture festivals, Die Woordfees — a big moment for Gerald because he was up against Yvonne Chaka Chaka, another true SA legend.
Gerald has worked with some of SA’s best musicians on and off stage throughout his career. On his latest album, Afrocoustic, he had the privilege of working with members of the Johnny Clegg Band and Freshlyground, two South African bands with huge audiences abroad. Barry van Zyl — a true legend who has worked with Johnny Clegg, Annie Lennox, Carlos Santana, and Robert Plant — helped produce the album and also played percussion and drums on it.
