Hilton Schilder, Live Solo Piano Recital

The chance to hear Hilton Schilder live in solo performance in a space dedicated to fine music is rare. From his first glimpse of our space when he came for a recording, and from my first hearing of the first few notes he played, we both felt strongly that his performing in this unique environment, on one of the world’s best pianos, would be something extraordinary.

Contemplative, touching on things ancient yet close to home, profound and completely original, Hilton Schilder is one of Cape Town’s greatest creative talents. In an intimate space dedicated to the art of the piano—where music, musicians, and instruments are drawn to the gravitational power of live performance—every recital becomes a memorable experience.

From the Piano Sonata No. 14 (Moonlight Sonata) to the Khoisan mouth bow, and from the Goldberg Variations to music yet to be imagined, Ian Burgess-Simpson Pianos offers one of the most unique and serious performance spaces in Cape Town.

Ian will be hand to talk about the instrument itself from the perspective of his advanced training with three of the world's greatest manufacturers: Fazioli, Steinway and Shigeru Kawai.
