The Songmakers' Guild Prestige: From Naples to New York

The Songmakers’ Guild presents its second concert of the year, under the Prestige banner: a rare opportunity for local audiences to hear South African artists who are treading the greatest stages of the world. On 26 and 27 March, Cape Town-born tenor, Lunga Hallam, will be joined by the Guild’s artistic director, José Dias, in a programme titled From Naples to New York. The programme highlights Hallam’s special gift for Italian and particularly belcanto repertoire, which is earning him praise at the world’s leading opera houses, with songs by Bellini, Tosti and more. The second half is further dedicated to American art song, which Hallam has performed extensively since his time as a Young Artist at Chicago’s Lyric Opera, including rediscovered gems by Florence Price and works recently written specially for Hallam.
