The Sedibeng Stockvel for Dance and Theatre is a unified audience development initiative designed to build, unite, and sustain the performing arts community in the region. This collaborative event brings together local dance companies and independent theatre producers under a shared structure. Through this platform, artists showcase work, share resources, and cultivate vibrant audiences, all while generating sustainable income. The initiative promotes the performing arts through collective engagement within a single, regional stockvel system.
PRODUCTION DESCRIPTIONS

Inhlangano Yama Africa is a dance show that consists of different cultural dances. It's a show that teaches and reminds Africans of their forgotten roots.

The world we live in is called into question by those who have yet to inhabit it. Their feelings and intentions about our world force four characters (Dominic, Healer, Reject, and Leader) into a race to prove who truly has the world’s best interests at heart. Guided by The Great One, the central question remains: Who will win this race, and what qualifies them to do so? (Rated PG13)

Short Left is a captivating Pantsula dance production that dramatizes the story of township taxis, showcasing their impact on daily life and community transportation. The piece highlights the unique gestures used to hail these taxis, revealing the intricate rhythms of township life. It is choreographed by Invention Ramaisa and Sizwe Ndweni.

Mshovara is a dynamic show, driven by its comedic yet punchy approach. It follows a character who, despite being a graduate in his field, is compelled to open a car wash in his neighborhood to make ends meet. He questions the design of townships, the role of oversexed media, targeted advertising, and how these factors psychologically condition behaviors exhibited in particular spaces. The show grapples with the harsh realities of unemployment, substance abuse, and poverty, allowing the audience to witness how these forces create obstacles for him and those around him. Location is inspired by the Khoi-San people. This dance piece depicts the life of the Khoi-San and acts as a voice for them, a people who hunt with their tongues and sharpen their lies with our untold history.

The play focuses on women's issues, specifically miscarriage, stillbirth, abortion, and the importance of cleansing. These are experiences that many women take for granted, while others are blocked from the cleansing process by their religious beliefs.
