ABOUT
Valentine’s Day. Everyone’s performing romance whilst ignoring what love and dedication actually cost.
Stravinsky’s The Rite of Spring doesn’t let you ignore it. Thirty-five minutes of primal energy about sacrifice, transformation, and what renewal demands. The piece caused a riot in 1913 because it forced people to feel something real.
We listen together - twenty people maximum - because learning happens when we experience realities we don’t usually immerse in. The guided listening helps you hear what’s happening in the music. The discussion afterwards lets us work through it together.
No prior classical knowledge needed. Just willingness to sit with something genuinely powerful on a day usually reserved for hollow gestures.
What happens:
· Brief introduction to the piece
· Guided listening to The Rite of Spring (35 minutes)
· Discussion about what we experienced
· Total time: approximately 90 minutes
Accessibility:
Bridge Books has step-free access via the main entrance. Seating provided.
