?? Hike Information
This is a social, relaxed hike, approximately 6–7 km in total.
- We’ll walk mostly on gravel roads, making this route suitable for most fitness and skill levels.
- We’ll take a break at the Higgovale Granite Quarry, where we’ll loop around the quarry before heading back toward Van Riebeek Park.
- Once back, we’ll hang out, socialize, and grab a coffee or snack from Bliss Coffee.
This hike is about community, conversation, and enjoying the outdoors together — not speed or performance.
?? Group Management
If the group is large, we may split into smaller groups only if there are volunteers to help guide or look after breakaway groups. We’ll assess this on the day.
I usually stay with the group that I can see needs me most ?
? After the Hike
We’ll regroup at the coffee van for some relaxed social time.
- Bring your own sandwich, or
- Buy something from the coffee van (note: food options are limited, but they have a to-die-for cinnamon twistie ??)
?? Dogs
Dogs are welcome with a valid permit.
- Some sections of the trail require dogs to be on leash.
- Please note: this route has limited shade, and dogs can struggle on the later parts of the hike, especially in warmer weather. Please use your judgment and put your dog’s wellbeing first.
?? What to Bring
- Water – at least 1–2 bottles
- Sunglasses (for sunny sections)
- Sunscreen
- Hat
- Small backpack, ideally with an extra layer (windproof and/or waterproof is helpful)
- Any medication you may need (e.g. allergies, asthma)
- Please also tell someone in the group if you carry medication.
- Example: I’m allergic to bees and carry Celestamine and Venteze in a small orange bag in my backpack.
- Something small to share at the end (optional but lovely!)
?? Parking
There is plenty of parking around and inside the park, but it fills up quickly on good-weather days. Please allow extra time to find parking so we can start on time.
