Geology Walk
Sat Jan 24, 07:00 - Sat Jan 24, 09:00
Kloofendal Nature Reserve
ABOUT
Join Steve Spottiswoode for a 2 hour walk in Kloofendal Nature Reserve to explore the geology of the reserve and how the intersection of two major geological faults created geological complexity that brought gold to Kloofendal. In 1886, men drawn to Johannesburg by mining at Kloofendal discovered the Main Reef gold at Langlaagte which led to the huge South African Gold mining industry and the development of Johannesburg.
Complete amateurs are particularly welcome as we explain the different rock types and formations found at Kloofendal through hand samples and in the field.
Meet at the Ecological Centre 15 minutes before the event. This event will go ahead regardless of the weather. For queries, please contact the Friends of Kloofendal (phone, WhatsApp) on 079 693-5608. For more information about Kloofendal Nature Reserve, please go to www.kloofendalfriends.org.za
