The Essential Scorpion Sting First Response Course offers a new and innovative science-based first response framework that addresses the burden of scorpion stings in Southern Africa, by offering individuals the knowledge and understanding to assume a leadership role in their local community. The course consists of a presentation, interactive workshop, supporting resources, assessment and certificate.

The 3 hour Essential Scorpion Sting First Response Course offers a new and innovative science-based first response framework that addresses the burden of scorpion stings in Southern Africa across all levels of society. This course covers the following fundamentals of scorpion sting first response:

1. Introduction To scorpion sting first response.
2. Our relationship with scorpions.
3. Venom and the venomosity rule of thumb.
4. Dangerous scorpions.
5. Scorpion sting symptoms.
6. Factors influencing symptom severity.
7. Scorpion stings in animals.
8. Essential scorpion sting first response.
9. Where to ask for help?
10. Closing thoughts.

Course duration is 3 hours in length and consists of a presentation followed by an interactive workshop. Participants write a multiple choice assessment. All participants will receive a certificate according to their results. The pass mark for this course is 60%. This course has been developed and presented by Jonathan Leeming,
