The Essential Scorpion Sting First Response Course offers a new and innovative science-based first response framework that addresses the burden of scorpion stings in Southern Africa, by offering individuals the knowledge and understanding to assume a leadership role in their local community. The course consists of a presentation, interactive workshop, supporting resources, assessment and certificate.
The 3 hour Essential Scorpion Sting First Response Course offers a new and innovative science-based first response framework that addresses the burden of scorpion stings in Southern Africa across all levels of society. This course covers the following fundamentals of scorpion sting first response:
- Introduction To scorpion sting first response.
- Our relationship with scorpions.
- Venom and the venomosity rule of thumb.
- Dangerous scorpions.
- Scorpion sting symptoms.
- Factors influencing symptom severity.
- Scorpion stings in animals.
- Essential scorpion sting first response.
- Where to ask for help?
- Closing thoughts.
Course duration is 3 hours in length and consists of a presentation followed by an interactive workshop. Participants write a multiple choice assessment. All participants will receive a certificate according to their results. The pass mark for this course is 60%. This course has been developed and presented by Jonathan Leeming,
