Behind the Keys (volume 1)

Ian Burgess-Simpson Pianos invites you to "Behind the Keys" a FREE technical workshop for piano students, their parents & teachers.

Outline:

• How are pianos tuned? This will be demonstrated at a practical level with the chance to experience the process of tuning a string.
• What comprises a piano? Learn about the parts that make up a piano and what you are controlling when you play. See grand pianos in various forms of disassembly from our rebuild queue. Touch, feel and see the working parts of a piano.
• What is hammer voicing? Voice a hammer, feeling needles and experiencing the skill that goes into doing this correctly.
• What tools/materials does a piano technician use? Voicing needles, key weights, touch papers, among many more.
• What do the pedals do? Sostenuto, Una Corda and Dampers explained.
• Some stories will be shared along the way and questions can be answered as they come up.
• Get some free time to play some of the world's top piano brands!

Date: Thursday 18th December

Time: 10am - 1pm (with 20 min break)

Snacks and refreshments will be served half-way.
