ABOUT
Geology Walk & Talk Sunday the 22nd of June
The CRR Geology Walk & Talk is around the corner! This is one of our most popular events, where Professor Adam Bumby of the University of Pretoria introduces us to the past through the science of Geology, which looks at the physical form of our planet and what forces shaped it as we know it today.
Using the iconic Koppie Alleen as a point of reference Professor Bumby will be looking at the stratigraphy of the rocks in the Crocodile River Reserve and further afield with timelines that completely boggle the mind! From the Black Reef formation dating back 2640 million years to the Magaliesberg formation dating back 2150 million years this area boasts some of the oldest rocks on earth.
Be ready to soak up invaluable knowledge about our planet along with our glorious South African winter sunshine as we walk to Koppie Alleen. Once at the top Professor Bumby will use the spectacular 360-degree views and rich geological value of the Koppie to demonstrate the culmination of events that shaped, and continues to shape, our planet.
We will be meeting at The Sheds @ Bird Song, Gemstone Road, (off the R511) Crocodile River Reserve on Sunday the 22nd of June at 8h30 and will be finished at approximately 11h30. The cost is R95 per adult and R45 per child 12 and under.
Please wear good walking shoes, a hat and sunscreen. This event is suitable for all ages but includes a comfortable 15 minute walk to Koppie Alleen, a short climb to the top of the hill and a 15 minute walk back to The Sheds.
