AFRO VISIONARY MOVIE NIGHTS PRESENTS: YOUTH DAY EDITION

UPRIZE! - A Film That Shook the System ??

This Youth Day, we honour the fierce spirit of South Africa’s youth with a powerful screening of UPRISE!, the acclaimed documentary by Sfiso Khanyile.

SYNOPSIS

On June 16, 1976, hundreds of schoolchildren in Soweto bravely took to the streets to protest the forced use of Afrikaans in schools. By nightfall, over 200 had been killed by the apartheid regime.

UPRIZE! revisits this historic moment—through the voices of artists, writers, musicians, teachers, and student leaders who lit the spark. More than a film, it’s a tribute to youth courage and a mirror to today’s continued fight for justice and education.
