ABOUT

The Philharmonia Choir of Cape Town, in collaboration with the Cape Town Philharmonic Orchestra, proudly presents Handel’s Messiah—a masterwork that has captivated audiences since its premiere in 1742. With its soaring arias, intricate choral harmonies, and majestic orchestration, Messiah remains a cornerstone of both sacred and classical music.

Composed 283 years ago, this oratorio continues to move listeners worldwide with its profound storytelling and musical brilliance. Since 1967, with only a brief pause in its history, the Philharmonia Choir of Cape Town has upheld the tradition of performing Messiah at Easter, drawing audiences into its rich tapestry of prophecy, sacrifice, and triumph.

Famous for its triumphant “Hallelujah” Chorus, Messiah traces the life of Jesus Christ from foretelling to resurrection, offering a powerful reflection on faith, redemption, and the human experience. Whether you come for the deeply spiritual journey or simply to revel in the grandeur of Baroque music, this Easter performance promises an unforgettable encounter with one of history’s most celebrated compositions.

Join us for an evening of awe-inspiring music and tradition, as Messiah returns to Cape Town in 2025.
