Dinner at Lapo’s Kitchen marries the best of both worlds: an amazing restaurant-quality food experience and the cosy vibe of a dinner party. You see, chef Lapo Magni makes you dinner in his own home’s open-plan kitchen, letting you catch all the action from the comfort of his long, family-style dinner table. The evening usually starts with a short chat where Lapo tells you what he’s all about, before getting on with making your aperitivo (think soufflé or a salad made with seasonal produce), primi (soup, risotto or hand-made pasta), secondi (something meaty) and dolci (because, what’s a dinner without something sweet?). Lapo is super passionate about using only seasonal, sustainable and ethical produce – and making stuff from scratch – so each course starts with him telling you more about the star ingredients and inspiration behind the dish. If he’s decided to make his mushroom risotto, for example, you’ll learn more about his supplier of wild, foraged porcini. If his slow-roasted leg of lamb basted in honey, anchovy and mustard is on the menu, he’ll explain how the vegetation the free-range Karoo lambs graze on affects the flavour of the meat. Other signature dishes you can look out for is his homemade ravioli filled with butternut and ricotta, served with sage butter and crumbled amaretti biscuits, his wild boar bolognese sauce served with homemade pappardelle, and his dark chocolate hand grenade (it’s dangerously delicious) for dessert. Lapo doesn’t have a liquor license, so he’ll mail you a couple of days before the dinner to give you some guidelines of which vinos will suit his menu. Because Lapo is cool like that.

About the supplier
Lapo Magni was born and raised in Florence, Italy, where since a young age he was exposed to the restaurant industry through his family. His mother, a qualified chef, taught him all there is to know about regional Tuscan-Italian cuisine and cooking. His Italian heritage taught him to be appreciative of the fresh, wholesome produce that he grew up with, and has inspired him to use only seasonal, sustainable and ethically sourced ingredients in his cooking. He believes this philosophy not only makes his food more delicious, but also takes Mother Nature into consideration.
