Exploring life on the uncomfortable edge
A launch and photographic presentation
At the end of January, Casabio CEO and botanist, Dr David Gwynne-Evans will be departing from Cape Town on a two-year expedition exploring African nature. Together with Shereen Young and Chris Wiehe they will focus on finding the survivors of past extinction events: the conifers of Africa that have survived over 300 million years. The journey will take them from the Cedarberg in the Cape, to the Pencil Cedar on Mt Kilimanjaro via the cliffs of Mt Mulanje in Malawi to the Atlas Cedars of Morocco. In addition they will document mainly plant life on the highest mountains of 27 African countries.
At the launch event on the 23rd of January, David Gwynne-Evans will be showcasing some of his most interesting discoveries of the last 20 years of investigating plants around Africa. In addition we shall hear from Shereen Young about their plans for traversing Africa and how to follow their route.
The host organisation, Casabio, is an NGO creating an Africa-focused citizen science platform for documenting plants and animals for conservation, education and research.
