ABOUT

The Social Justice Walk is part of the Centre for Social Justice (CSJ) ongoing #Action4Inclusion campaign to eliminate student debt and free the potential of students to fully realise their capabilities thus contributing to South Africa’s sustainable development and global competitiveness. The funds raised via #Action4Inclusion are used to support students who cannot register for the next academic year because of outstanding student fees, as well as graduates who are not able to access their academic records upon graduation.

Beyond its fundraising purpose, the walk symbolises hope, collaboration, and contribution to levelling the academic playing field through redressing past injustices while building a better future for all. Supported by the Stellenbosch Municipality and Visit Stellenbosch, the walk showcases the Dwarsrivier Valley—a hidden gem of cultural heritage and indigenous beauty in our region.

The 13km walk follows the Pilgrimage of Hope route from Stellenbosch to Kylemore via the Old Helshoogte Pass and will bring together alumni, captains of industry, colleagues, and friends united by a shared commitment to social justice. Your leadership in this initiative would underscore SU’s dedication to inclusivity and transformation as we work towards shaping a brighter tomorrow for our students together. The Director for the CSJ, Prof Thuli Madonsela will be joined by Rector and Vice Chancellor, Prof Deresh Ramjugernath, SU's Chair of Council, Dr Nicky Newton-King and Executive Mayor, Mr Jeremy Fasser.
