Help Rexy Walk Again

About

Rexy is a staffie cross doggy of approximately 4 years old. The good people of the Dogs Trust team was contacted on the 23rd of August 2023 by her previous guardian as she was found paralysed one morning. Dr Tim Kraft from Valley Farm Animal Hospital diagnosed Rexy with polyradiculaneurosis. It could be the result of poisoning. It is a rare disease that causes inflammation in the nerves and nerve roots. As a result Rexy has temporary paralysis, decreased reflexes, decreased muscle tone, and lost muscle mass. Her rear legs are more severely affected than the front legs. Recovery is possible but can be anything from 6 weeks or 6 month or even longer.

The key to recovery is good nursing care. This means preventing pressure sores, limiting the loss of muscle mass, appropriate pain management (when needed), and adequate nutrition to support recovery.

Rexy also needs intensive physical therapy in order to lessen or slow the inevitable loss of muscle mass and to encourage as much voluntary movement as possible to facilitate a more rapid recovery.

Rexy goes for treatment at the wonderful team at Doggy Paddle in Broadacres once a week. We however need funds to cover the rest of the treatment needed for the next 5 months. The treatment costs only R2,160 per month.

Please help us raise the funds needed for her to continue her treatments at Doggy Paddle
