ABOUT

For many of us, the bicycle is a symbol. It's a means to eternal adventure, a two wheeled timeline of our lives and the path we constantly tread in search of both belonging to something yet remaining absolutely free. Join us, alongside guest speakers, Rook Cycles co-owner and gravel biking connoisseur Sindz Mavundla, bike-packing extraordinaire and event organizer Rae Trew-Browne, adventure cyclist Cally Siberbrauer and filmmaker Tyrone Bradley as we showcase a series of films that present an exciting look into the adventures and endeavors of cyclists both locally and internationally.

Fastest Girl In The Village

It’s not typical to see women riding bikes in Lesotho, but when a pump track was built in Roma in 2017, Leuta was entranced. “I was the first girl to ride the pump track in the village," she says. "But now I’m faster than the boys – I let my riding do the talking.” Learn how Khothalang Leuta went from teaching herself how to ride a bike to competing with the best riders at Red Bull Pump Track World Championships.

Café Americano

Join us for an immersive experience with adventure filmmaker, Joey Schusler as Yeti rider, Shawn Neer guides us through the Italian countryside in search of the best cup of coffee life has to give. On his way, Neer straps in for urban riding in the villages of Cinque Terre, shreds singletrack in the Dolomites, and finds himself lost in caffeine fueled hallucinations and Alfa Romeo mechanicals before discovering what his journey was really about.

Flip The Switch

If you don’t have role models to look up to, it’s harder to progress as a rider. Georgia Astle grew up chasing her older brother. “If he could do it, I could do it” she figured. But that could only take her so far. As Geo developed as a racer, she learned to push herself. She got comfortable “flipping the switch” and pushing against the clock. But when Geo looked beyond racing, there weren’t a lot of women pushing the limits of freeride. Until all of a sudden, there was.

Crossing Tasmania

After recognizing that his career as a cyclist means missing the best parts of everywhere he travels, Payson McElveen sets off on a series of adventures — continuous island crossings — to find a deeper connection with the experiences of riding.

Cycling the World [South African Premiere]

A voyage of both the outer and inner worlds, poetic narration is interwoven with stunning landscapes from around our planet and misadventures along the way: dodging a spear in Kenya, being stuck in a military coup in Sudan, narrowly escaping a wild African ambush in Botswana, crossing the Australian outback and the world's largest salt flats in Bolivia. Entirely and intentionally self-made by the adventurer from script to screen, Cycling The World is a raw and visceral account of what happens when you tackle a big, audacious goal that terrifies you.
